The Curious Case of the Lost Hat

Whilst longingly scrolling through the photos from New York fashion week 2013 (*insert biggest sign known to mankind*) I was surprised at the large number of hats propped upon the heads of those lucky enough to be at New York fashion week. This was particularly surprising as each morning of New York fashion week I jumped onto my computer to read all about up and coming soft palates, pastels and frills; the last thing I was expecting to see on the streets was boho chic! Image

SPOTTED: The boho hat appears at New York fashion week

I have a huge amount of respect for hats as there have been many days where these little treasures have covered up my miserable bed hair and the fact that my hair is in serious need of a little tender love and care. Not only do hats fend off any judgmental eyes they are great protectors from the sun and here in Australia with summer approaching and the sun stronger than ever, a broad brim is just what the doctor ordered (..literally people).

In my rush to pull my beloved floppy felt hat on top of my locks, it occurred to me that I haven’t seen this hat since my trip to Italy last year! The devastation hit me like a ton of bricks, have I really lost my all time favourite hat!? In the hope of finding my hat I have planned the perfect outfit to entice my floppy friend back, round Celine sunglasses, a tiny leather shoulder bag, printed t-shirt dress, brown leather clogs (I recently bought myself a pair of these and they areĀ bliss in a shoe ladies) and hopefully my hat! (RETURN TO ME PLEASE)

LAST SPOTTED: The Amalfi Coast… yes this was just an excuse to share a holiday piccy, hehe enjoy!

Let me know what you think of the boho hat making a comeback!

The Minimilist

Last seen on the feet of Sarah Jessica Parker the minimalist heel has made a colossal comeback. The first time I saw these babies reappear was in the 10ft Gucci Spring 2013 advertisement campaign in Rome airport in July of 2012. Image

Despite running late for my flight I stopped to admire the vivacious yellow masterpiece standing down at me. As I am and always will be a wedges lover (the shoes not the potato chips people) I was reluctant at first, but as Australia enters into the Spring season I absolutely cannot get enough of the minimalist heel. After many hours spent hunting the shops of the city to analyse the vast degree of minimalist heels available I came across a few standouts that I’m sure you will looooove.

Image

A simple black heel is so chic it hurts! The great thing about a black minimalist heel is their amazing versatility, they can be worn throughout the day, around the office and are perfect to be seen flitting around the town in by night. An extra benefit of these babies is they’re extremely lightweight and thin, meaning they are perfect for business trips and weekenders with your girlfriends.

ImageImage

I can never bypass a splash of colour.. There is nothing that I don’t like about a bright, statement piece of colour whether it be a clutch, necklace or blazer. What better way to add a classy dash of subtle colour through a neon minimalist heel!

And of course I can’t miss this golden opportunity to show off my new addition to the family (and my watch, which is the absolute love of my life) Ladies, I think I’m obsessed!

Let me know what you think! Do you have a pair of minimalist heels? What do you like to wear them with?

Beat Your Boyfriend: How To

Boyfriend jeans. It seems that everywhere I turn, a pair of boyfriend jeans are right there staring back at me. I purchased my beloved pair on a weekend trip to Melbourne and have been living in them ever since.

Now ladies, these are not your typical pair of baggy jeans, the boyfriend jean has an amazing versatility to be worn practically all year round. So for someone like me, who withholds a serious obsession this is exciting news! However, as Spring has sprung here in Australia I will definitely be wearing my boyfriend jeans one of three ways..

Kicking off at number one, a minimalistic pair of heels with a boyfriend jean is the definition of relaxed chic. This is perfect for a sunny spring brunch with your girlfriends, movie dates with your boyfriend and everything else in between.

At number one for sheer practicality and comfort, boyfriend jeans and sneakers are a match made in heaven. This combination is perfect for long days of shopping (in my case, shopping marathons), spring trips to the beach and warm bike rides with friends.

Finally at number three, boyfriend jeans and statement flats are perfect for those events where you’re not exactly sure on the dress code. This can be either dressed up with a blazer, clutch and rose gold necklace or dressed down with a baggy T-shirt and a messy bun.

What’s that? An award you say?

I am extremely honored and very excited to announce my nomination in the ‘Shine On’ award, thanks to the lovely Abrielle at Sheer Embellished.I am absolutely clueless about this award, however I will endeavour to abide by the rules of the award and state 7 things about myself.

1. I was born and currently live in Australia
2. I have played the piano since the age of 3
3. I have the biggest sweet tooth known to man kind
4. I have always wanted to become a ballerina
5. I swear a lot.. probably too much
6. I am a proud member of an E/F netball squad
7. I love to bake, especially cakes and anything deviously rich

Once again a huge thank you to Sheer Embellished, this really does mean so much!

The Unexpected Winter Staple: Gumboots

Gumboots, wellingtons, wellies.. whatever you call them, these babies are an absolute must have! Gumboots have now stepped out from the garden and into the fashion world with an exorbitant hello. Spotted on the likes of Kate Moss, Rachel Bilson and Kate Bosworth gumboots have been a popular option for music festivals, shopping and more.

Image

Often overlooked and misjudged for their ‘builder’ like appearance gumboots have taken an unexpectedly chic turn. Mr Jimmy Choo himself has collaborated with the iconic Hunter wellingtons to produce a pair of extremely sophisticated gumboots which I would be happy to wear anyday!

Image

Wave goodbye to soggy suede and frozen tootsies, gumboots will forever keep you warm (sneaky knee high knitted socks anyone?) and protect you from the slush of winter. For anybody living in rainy cities such as London, or Queensland (Australia) gumboots are absolutely perfect!

Image

If you’re still suffering in the winter months (some of you may have picked up on the fact that I HATE winter, so apologies to allĀ  winter lovers!) opt for a glossed, knee high pair of gumboots with a bright trench, black skinny jeans, a sloppy beanie and the perfect pair of Celine glasses. If you’re lucky enough to be baking in that sweet summer sun gumboots require little layering on top, opt for a light bohemian dress and completely oversized and over-the-top round sunnies.

Image

For anybody on the hunt for a pair of the perfect wellingtons I can definitely recommend Hunters. Worn by Kate Moss herself, these booties are expensive but will last the test of time. However, if you’re not wanting to fork out for a pair of Hunters try your local gardening, superstore or any small eclectic homewares boutiques. Don’t be afraid to splash out with a bit of colour, especially for the summer months these would go great with a pair of overalls!

Let me know what you think, anybody else on the hunt for the perfect pair of gumboots?

Leather Legs

Gone are the days of leather pants being worn by only the likes of bikers and goths. Leather pants have swept us off our feet with their amazing versatility and ability to be worn as both night-time and day-time outfits. Spotted on the legs of many street style icons, leather pants have the potential to be dressed both up and down and when you’re in the mood for a bad-ass daytime look, leather pants are a very promising option.

Screen Shot 2013-08-10 at 8.13.50 AM

Although a skin tight leather pant may be the first thing that comes to mind, don’t be afraid to opt for a baggy pant! If you’re worried that you may look as if you are wearing two slim fitting garbage bags, up the look with some minimalistic heels or roll the pant and sport with a pair of trusty white converse.

2013-summer-trend-wearing-black

Leather pants are not shy and have the ability to speak for themselves so they don’t require excessive amounts of colour and accessories to make up for ‘lack of statement’ qualities. You can’t go wrong with a hat (especially in winter, 40% of body heat escapes through your head!) or a crisp, chic blazer.

Rosie-Huntington-Whiteley-Style-June-2011

For those of you who are not keen of the full leather pant, don’t stress there are other options! A favourite of mine has always been the leather patched pant, these have a slight ‘jodhpur’ feel as the shin and thigh section of the leg is leather and the remain knee and backing is usually stretchy and black and super comfy.

I myself own 4 pairs of leather pants, yes ladies, 4. Sadly my addiction doesn’t stop there, I am almost constantly on the lookout for new leather members of my wardrobe. To all my loyal followers out there you might have picked up on my slight fondness of anything leather or embellished so apologies for yet another leather focused post!

Let me know what you think about leather pants, surely there are some other addicts out there!? Whats you’re favourite leather pant look? I would love to hear what you have to say!

P.s Sorry for my lack of posting these past few weeks, I hope all my much loved followers are well. I am SO looking forward to hearing all your ideas and thoughts again!

Floral Flurry

Here’s one for all you daring fashion girls out there! A two piece floral suit is definitely a statement piece and isn’t for the faint hearted.

Image

The key to pulling off the floral suit is balance, do not over do the look! For example if you were sporting a floral suit with yellow undertones don’t opt for a statement pair of fluro yellow shoes or a heavily embellished top. Instead subtly compliment the yellow under tones with something else yellow like a ring or necklace, such as the necklaces below. Necklaces such as these subtly accentuate the colour without making the outfit over-the-top.

Image

Wearing a floral suit is all about confidence, without it you have no hope of pulling it off! Be bold ladies and embrace your inner fashion monster because without it we’d all be wearing potato sacks! Pair the suit with a pair of minimalist black heels and a shoulder bag of your choice, then accessorise to your hearts desire! After all, fashion should reflect who you are.

Anybody attempted the floral suit? Let me know your thoughts!

The Leopard Loafer

Leopard print loafers have been a much loved member of my wardrobe for the past few seasons (and hopefully more to come)! Yes you heard me, I’ve kept the same pair of leopard print loafers for more than one season… Scandalous you say? Well if anything was to remain in my wardrobe for a prolonged period, these babies would be one of my top choices.

Image

My leopard lovelies have had a comfortable spot to call home in my closet for many seasons due to their very flexible versatility. Whether it be the bitter days of Winter or the sweltering nights of Summer my leopard print loafers add just that extra bit of ‘chicness’ to my outfit. I discovered just how versatile they are on a 3 week trip to Itay where they toughed everything from the cobblestone streets of Rome to the sandy beaches of the Amalfi Coast.

In winter leopard print loafers are great to wear with your favourite pair of jeans. Rolled up baggy distressed boyfriend jeans and faux leather jeans look equally amazing if you are looking to dress the loafers up or down. Miranda Kerr styles the loafers in what I like to call a ‘never fail outfit.’ A never fail outfit is perfect to store for those days where you really can not be bothered putting any effort into how you look as it is literally effortlessly chic. This requires hardly any hair or makeup styling and goes perfectly with an oversized pair of cats-eye sunglasses to cover any tired eyes!

In summer leopard print loafers look great with almost anything and everything. They are my go to shoe instead of the iconic Australian thongs or flipflops for those of you who don’t know what they are! Leopard print loafers are cool (literally) and and have the ability to take an outfit from hot to extraordinary! Check out some ideas below for some summer leopard loafer inspiration.

I Heart NY

I recently returned back from my first trip ever to the states (exciting!!) and to say I feel head over heels for New York, is an understatement. New York City was absolutely magical, from fifth avenue to the edgy streets of Soho, I couldn’t get enough! Apart from the sandals and socks I am very a stereotypical tourist, I never fail to book seats on the Big Red Bus and take selfies with all iconic landmarks, laugh if you must! What’s that I hear you asking? Photos? If I have to..

Whilst riding the Big Red Bus, listening to Frank Sinatra’s ‘New York New York’ blaring from the speakers, my tour guide yelled ‘see that’s what I love about New Yorkers, they don’t care! You could walk outside in a giraffe suit and not a single person would stare.’ That got me thinking about New York street style. New Yorker’s street style is very practical, they dress for the seasons, for mobility and efficiency; all with effortless style! So thank you New York for teaching me that pain is not fashion and you can function as a chic traveller without the sandals and socks!

I would love to hear from any of my New York followers! How is the city of dreams?
