Rapunzel Rapunzel

Despite the likes of Miley Cyrus and Emma Watson opting for the crop, I can’t bring myself to cut my locks! I have been a massive sucker for long hair ever since I was a kid and have failed to change my mind on the subject. There’s something about the versatility of long hair that sucks me in, its ability to be worn down and straight, in a high pony tail, soft and beachy or in a thick sock bun. Valeria Sokolova is my long hair motif and my on going inspiration to grow my hair just that little bit longer.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a physco who refuses to cut their hair even when it is trailing behind them carrying a few dozen cats! I’m sure the day will come when I decide to cut my hair short, but for now I will still dream of tossing my long locks out of the window just like rapunzel.

Let me know your thoughts on long hair!

The Callous Wardrobe Essential

For those of you who have not yet guessed, I’m talking about the iconic LEATHER JACKET.

Leather is one of those rare eternal factors of style which periodically comes back into fashion, and for a good reason! Leathers ability to be effortlessly dressed up or down on the likes of both celebrities and us mere mortals (I bet some of you could give Kate Moss a run for her money when it comes to styling leather) is what makes leather such an exceptional member of your wardrobe.

A leather jacket is the ultimate fashion staple in both men and women dating back decades. Long gone are the days where leather jackets belonged to gang members and bikies, fashion icons have been sporting leather jackets from the mid sixties, take the Beatles for example.

There has always been a ‘bad ass’ image associated with leather jackets, this rebel image has clung to the leather jacket right up to the 21st century where classic ‘biker chic’ originates from the biker gangs who actually wore leather jackets. For the ultimate leathered delinquent, think Danny Zucko in Grease.

Biker Chic
By taking a leather jacket and pairing it with a dress, you have instantly fabricated a brusque ‘I’m chic but rebel’ look. A frequent member of the Street Style clan, leather jackets are often spotted on fashionistas attending shows as they give an edge to dresses.

Quilted Leather
Often neglected and overlooked quilted leather has the potential when worn right) to look effortlessly sophisticated. But you have to be careful when sporting the quilted leather trend, you don’t want to look like a walking Chanel handbag. Avoid this by keeping the rest of your look relatively casual, don’t try and over do anything as the jacket speaks for itself.

Embellished Leather
I had to put it in there, I love embellishment too much to forget it! Although this may seem completely over the top for some, I say bring it on with open arms! An embellished or studded leather jacket is the definition of badass  as you have the imperishable look of the leather accentuated with the piquant gleam of the embellishment. Embellishment haters look away now!

Mens Leather
It should be written in the laws of physics that there’s something about a guy in a leather jacket that draws girls in like a magnet. I’m not sure whether it’s the ‘bad boy’ image or the suave look it gives a guy but every man should own a leather jacket at least once in his lifetime. A black leather jacket is generally the way to go if you’re unsure, but look around and find what suits and makes you feel best.

For those of you who have not yet found your ideal leather jacket, take your time. The leather jacket is a reoccurring trend and will set up camp in your wardrobe for years to come, so it’s better to look around and find your perfect leather jacket.

Still unsure how to style your leather jacket? Don’t stress! You will soon find what works best for you and what you like wearing your jacket with best. Be open minded when trying new leather jacket looks, experiment and have fun with it!

Let me know all about your leather jackets, I would love to hear your stories!

The Harness

Today I came across a piece which I dibbed ‘The Harness.’ If you’re picturing the dreaded rock climbing harness (if you have ever gone rock climbing you feel my pain) or those ‘baby bjorn’ harnesses which tie your children to your front so you can continue everyday life… think again!

jewellery_1

It could be my inner embellished obsessed monster shouting out but I think The Harness is the definition of fearless. The shag like feature surrounding the bodice softens the striking bronze platelet, giving the harness a slightly tribal feel. For those of you thinking ‘yeah alright it’s cool, but I wouldn’t have a clue how to wear it’ look no further!

All the harness (a disguised knight in shining armour) needs is your favourite black tee, a pair of jeans, a chunky pair of clogs, an over-sized rose gold watch, a pair of wooden sunglasses and you’re ready to fight!

If this is slightly over the top for you, check out some of these harnesses:

Freckles

My mum once told me she use to lie in the bathtub squeezing lemon juice and vodka onto her freckles in an attempt to subdue their colour (therefore my entire childhood consisted of me being practically bathed in sunscreen). However long gone are the days of ‘freckle face,’ freckles are now welcomed and sought after in society. Take a look at these beautifully freckled faces..

ImageImageImage

There’s nothing I love more than seeing a beautifully freckled face or nose. Freckles remind me of long hot days in the sun, sun baking on the beach and coconut sun-screen; could anything make you happier?

In my desperate attempt to gain a few freckles I attempted to give myself some faux freckles by dotting my face with brown eyebrow pencil. Unfortunately this made left me looking like I had face-planted into a heap of dust or come down with a serious case of the chicken pocks. So for those of you out there concealing your freckles, don’t be afraid, embrace them!

Let me know your thoughts on freckles. Do you have them? Love them? Want them?

For those of you thinking this post was about choccy freckles, sorry to disappoint. Here is a delectable photo for you anyway! *drools*

Cut Out Boots

I have been desperate to get myself a pair of black leather cut out boots after I spotted THE pair at Sportsgirl; but at one hundred bucks I wasn’t entirely convinced I needed them. After a great deal of searching to try and find a cheaper look alike on a weekend trip to Melbourne, I finally subdued to the Sportgirl babies and may I proudly say, NO REGRETS! I even took a shameless picture of my newest family members in the elevator. Image

Whilst searching every nook and cranny of Melbourne for the perfect look-a-like, I came across a number of cut out boot variations.

Gold Buckled:

As I’m a sucker for anything embellished or rose gold I couldn’t look past these. Although I love the gold studding, ‘horse stirrup’ like buckles and the subtle gold zip the detailing of the leather is what really captures my attention. However, I do feel that the toe cap is  unnecessary and ruins the line of the boot.

Chunky Heels -Jeffery Campbell:

Image

These valorous gothic boots would give me the dangerous false impression of being able to stomp over anything and anyone! Chunky heels take cut out boots from edgy, punk rock to straight out gothic.. and I love it! (The extra height isn’t that bad either for a gal seriously lacking in the height department)

Pointed:

Image

Pointed shoes have never spoken to me no matter what form and this is no exception. Although personally I wouldn’t wear a pointed cut out, I can definitely imagine them on the feet of a chic ambassador sporting a crisp blazer with over the top pointed shoulder pads, killer kats eye sunglasses, wet looking leather shorts, an oversized clear clutch and a  vivaciously chunky necklace (tribal or embelished?).

I’ve been pairing my cut outs with the ever so trusty boyfriend jeans, but I am yet to expand my repertoire! I’m thinking in the summer months they would look incredibly cool with a tiny bohemian dress (completely clashing the edgy feel of the boots, but hey it’s the silly season after all!)

Let me know your thoughts on cut out boots this season: Completely impractical? (hello freezing tootzies) Cutting edge? Got yourself a pair?
